Amirhossein Sabeti

Amirhossein Sabeti is a member of Iran's Majlis (Parliament) aligned with the Paydari Front (Front of Islamic Revolution Stability), the most ideologically uncompromising parliamentary bloc in the Islamic Republic. The Paydari faction positions itself as The Guardian of the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei's doctrinal red lines and is typically the sharpest critic of any diplomatic opening with the West.

Following the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding on 15 June 2026, Sabeti stated publicly that the deal 'violates the Supreme Leader's red lines'. This is a specific and significant formulation in Iranian political discourse: invoking Khamenei's red lines is not rhetorical; it is a direct claim that the executive branch has exceeded its constitutional and theological authority . President Pezeshkian defended his negotiators against accusations of betrayal, drawing a direct confrontation between the executive and the hardline bloc.

Sabeti's role should not be confused with his namesake Mohammad Mehdi Sabeti or other Sabetis in Iranian public life. The Amirhossein Sabeti relevant here is the parliamentary figure associated with Paydari. His significance is as a representative of the faction most likely to mobilise against any follow-on agreement and to use the Islamabad MOU as a political weapon against Pezeshkian's government.
