Zakłady Mechaniczne Tarnów (ZMT) is a Polish weapons maker in Tarnów, southern Poland. It began in 1917 as railway workshops and has been part of the state-owned Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) since 2015.
ZMT makes small arms, including the UKM-2000 machine gun and the Bor sniper rifle, as well as grenade launchers, mortars, ZSMU remote weapon stations and air-defence guns. That catalogue of mountable weapons is what makes it a partner for robot builders.
In September 2026 ZMT agreed with the Estonian ground-robot maker Milrem Robotics to develop and produce unmanned ground vehicles armed with ZMT systems. The agreement places a Polish state-owned gunmaker inside one of Europe's most widely sold ground-robot programmes.
ZMT puts its guns on robots
On 10 September 2026, at the MSPO defence show in Kielce, ZMT signed an agreement with Milrem Robotics to develop and produce unmanned ground vehicles armed with ZMT weapon systems. The deal follows a framework Milrem agreed with ZMT's parent, the state group PGZ, in March 2026.
The deal moves ZMT from rifles and remote weapon stations into robots. The company brings the guns and mounts; Milrem brings a THeMIS vehicle already in production in the Netherlands for Ukraine and courted by buyers as FAR off as South Korea. No order, value or delivery date has been published, so the agreement gives ZMT a product route rather than revenue so FAR.
