Yes. During the 2022-23 global LNG price spike Venture Global diverted spot cargoes to Asia rather than delivering to European long-term contract holders, triggering significant commercial and legal disputes with European buyers.

Background

Venture Global LNG is a US Liquefied Natural Gas developer and exporter headquartered in Arlington, Virginia. It operates Calcasieu Pass on the Calcasieu Ship Channel in Louisiana (first LNG exports 2022) and the larger Plaquemines facility, also in Louisiana. Together they make Venture Global currently the second-largest US LNG exporter by volume to European buyers.

Venture Global captures part of the 45% year-on-year rise in US LNG deliveries to the EU recorded by ACER for the period leading into April 2026, as the bloc diversifies away from Russian pipeline gas and Russian LNG spot contracts banned from 25 April 2026. US LNG now accounts for 30% of EU gas imports by volume.

The company's commercial trajectory has been controversial: it signed long-term contracts with European buyers but initially diverted spot cargoes to Asia during the 2022-23 price spike, triggering litigation. Despite those disputes, its two Louisiana facilities have established it as a structural rather than marginal supplier to European markets in the post-2022 supply reorientation.
