Teresa Leger Fernandez has represented New Mexico's 3rd congressional district since 2021. In the 119th Congress she sits on the Natural Resources and Rules committees, and she belongs to both the Congressional Progressive Caucus and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. On 21 July 2026 she returned from a 9-13 July visit to Havana with three other House Democrats and urged President Trump to lift Cuba sanctions .
Her district covers much of northern New Mexico, and her committee assignments have concentrated her legislative work on public lands, water and Indigenous affairs alongside her caucus roles on the Democratic Left. The Havana trip, alongside Delia Ramirez, Maxine Dexter and Mark Pocan, placed her at the centre of the House's most direct engagement with Cuba policy since sanctions escalated through 2026.
