Tahmina Saleem is the Labour councillor for Biscot on Luton Borough Council. The Labour group made her council leader on 19 May 2026, replacing Hazel Simmons, WHO had led the council since 2007.
Over the summer Labour's majority slipped away as members of its group quit the party; the Lutonian counted eight WHO joined the Independent Alliance. At a full council meeting on 3 September, the Liberal Democrats, the Independent Alliance and the Conservatives backed a no-confidence motion against her. "Luton elected a Labour council; not chaos and individual egos," she said.
The BBC reported her removal on 16 September. Amjid Ali of the Liberal Democrats took over at the head of a coalition, mid-term and without an election.
