Autonomous Systems: Land & SeaBackground
Sea Venom is a lightweight anti-ship missile made by MBDA, known in France as ANL. It has a range of up to 30km, a 30kg semi-armour-piercing blast and fragmentation warhead and a solid-propellant motor. It is in service on Royal Navy and French Navy helicopters (Naval News).
On 30 September 2026 MBDA and Stark Defence of Germany said they would fit four Sea Venom missiles in an AFT box launcher on Stark's 12m uncrewed surface vessel, with ten Cascade loitering munitions forward. The companies call the Sea Venom integration early-stage, with autonomy testing at Nordic exercises through 2027.
No Sea Venom has yet been fired from that hull. If the plan reaches service, it turns a missile built for crewed helicopters into the main weapon of an uncrewed boat.
