Safran Electronics and Defense is a subsidiary of the French aerospace and defence group Safran, and one of the consortium members already building ground systems rather than purely researching them within iMUGS2, the EU's ground-robot standardisation programme. The programme launched in November 2025, runs from Estonia under Milrem Robotics, and pairs Safran with 28 other partners including KNDS France, KNDS Germany, the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment and Svensk Konstruktionstjanst.
Its position differs from the research institutes in the group: Safran already sells fielded ground systems, so a shared control standard affects its product line directly rather than only its research pipeline. For an established manufacturer such as Safran, a robot built to one national specification that cannot talk to another country's control system stays confined to its home market, which is the gap iMUGS2's standard is meant to close.
