Fry filed for South Carolina's special Republican Senate primary on 20 July 2026 without giving up his House seat, joining fellow Representative Ralph Norman, Trump-endorsed interim Senator Darline Graham Nordone and five other candidates ahead of the 28 July filing deadline .
He has represented South Carolina's 7th congressional district, covering the Grand Strand and Horry County, since January 2023.
South Carolina has no resign-to-run law, so Fry keeps his House seat whatever happens in the primary; he has said he will stand for re-election there in November if the Senate bid fails. Trump endorsed Nordone rather than Fry for the seat left vacant by Lindsey Graham's death .
