Background

The Q-Slam 40 now flies from robot boats as well as from soldiers' hands. Arquimea proved it at REPMUS26, NATO's uncrewed-systems exercise on Portugal's Tróia Peninsula, where the munition left a robot boat operated by the Spanish Navy and its camera feed reached the navy's command systems. According to Infodefensa, no Arquimea munition had been launched from a naval drone before. Neither source gives the day of the launch within the exercise, which lasted from 31 August to 25 September 2026.

The Q-Slam 40 is a loitering munition developed by the Spanish company Arquimea. It has a range of about 25km, 25 minutes' endurance and a 40mm-class warhead. Two soldiers can carry it and put it into action in under five minutes. Spain's defence ministry supported its final development stage from December 2021, and Airbus Helicopters Spain and Arquimea signed a collaboration on 14 May 2025 to integrate it on NH90 helicopters.

A small munition that can fly from a soldier's hands, a helicopter or an uncrewed boat gives the Spanish forces one weapon across three kinds of launcher.
