Novo Holdings is a Danish investment firm, founded in 1999, that manages the assets of the Novo Nordisk Foundation and holds controlling stakes in Novo Nordisk and Novonesis. It ran roughly €93 billion in assets at the end of 2025, across more than 180 direct investments concentrated in life sciences, from offices in Copenhagen, San Francisco, Boston, London, Singapore and Shanghai.
Backing a French AI lab sits well outside that pattern: Novo Holdings' money has historically gone into pharmaceuticals and biotech, not chips or foundation models. Reporting on 22 July 2026 placed the firm among the names circling Mistral AI's latest funding push, alongside a Korean electronics giant and a European private-equity fund, at a reported valuation of about €20 billion .
That round remained open rather than closed as of 22 July 2026, and Novo Holdings' involvement is reported rather than confirmed; the firm has made no public statement on the talks.
