Masirah Island is a sea-turtle nesting site off Oman's south-eastern coast. Oil from a tanker grounding in June is expected to reach it, after fouling coastline further south by 13 August 2026.

Masirah Island lies off Oman's south-eastern coast in the Arabian Sea, north of the Ras Madrakah headland, and is a significant nesting ground for sea turtles. That makes any oil reaching its shore an ecological concern rather than a purely economic one.
Oman's Environment Authority expects the island to be reached by a slick from a sanctioned, Russian-linked tanker. By 13 August the oil had already spread across a 40km stretch of coast to the south at Ras Madrakah, and monsoon weather was slowing the clean-up effort before it reaches the island itself.
As of 13 August the island itself had not been confirmed as struck; the risk to it rests on the forecast track of a slick that authorities are still tracking rather than on any reported landfall there.
