Jeff Landry

Jeff Landry has served as Governor of Louisiana since January 2024, having won a crowded gubernatorial race. Before the governorship, he served two terms as Louisiana Attorney General (2016 to 2024), building a national profile through litigation against the Biden administration on immigration, COVID-19 vaccine mandates, and social media policy. A conservative Catholic and firm Trump ally, Landry has aligned Louisiana's political machinery with the MAGA movement throughout his public career.

Landry's prominence in the 2026 cycle derives from his reported alignment with the Accountability Project Inc, a super PAC that committed more than $6 million in independent expenditures supporting Republican congresswoman Julia Letlow in the 27 June Louisiana Senate runoff against state treasurer John Fleming. Letlow's 15-point polling lead collapsed to a statistical tie by mid-June even as the outside money escalated. Incumbent Bill Cassidy was eliminated in the 17 May primary for voting to convict Trump in 2021. Landry's alignment with Letlow places him inside the Trump-allied effort to consolidate the seat and influence Senate composition ahead of the midterms.
