EU picks DECODER drone project for EDIP
Drones: Industry & DefenceBackground
EU Federated Integrated Air and Missile Defence including Early Warning (EU-FIAMD) aims to give member states collective integrated air and missile defence, with Early Warning and shared command and control. the Commission's July 2026 proposal covers a common architecture, faster production of existing systems and joint procurement, in line with NATO requirements.
That proposal listed 16 participants: 14 member states, among them Germany, France, Italy, Poland and Spain, plus Norway and Ukraine.
EU-FIAMD's envelope dwarfs its siblings. Its estimated size is more than ten times that of DECODER, the drone and counter-drone project approved alongside it, which leaves missile defence, not cheap drones, carrying the weight in Europe's shared plans.
