That puts this result in a different class from the three wards Reform was defending elsewhere in August, and it cuts against the reading the rest of the night invites. Reform lost two seats it held and won a third it had never held, on the same day. The gain continues the run of three seats taken and one held across the ten contests of 30 July and 6 August.

The consequence outlasts the seat. A party holding Harraby South goes into the next Cumberland round with an incumbent, a casework record and a name voters have already seen on a ballot once.
