On 31 August the Thai Royal Gazette published four Interior Ministry announcements, and from 15 September travellers from 60 countries get a 30-day visa exemption instead of 60 days1. Seychelles and Mauritius get 15 days. The cabinet's cut had waited months for publication, and gazettal puts the cabinet's July three-tier restructure into force.
The gazetted text adds a clause that did not appear in reports of the cabinet decisions. Travellers entering Thailand over land may use the exemption twice a calendar year, with exceptions for Malaysian, Singaporean, Indonesian, Bruneian and other designated nationals.
That clause targets the border run: a trip to Laos or Cambodia that long-stay visitors use to restart the clock. On the text as published, a visitor gets two such resets by land each year. For a nomad who wants to stay longer, the priced route remains the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV), Thailand's long-stay visa for remote workers.
