Enterprise Singapore and the Infocomm Media Development Authority issued SS 726:2026 on 27 August, a liquid-cooling standard written for data centres in tropical climates and developed through the Singapore Standards Council 1. Liquid cooling carries heat away from chips in a fluid rather than by moving air across them, and dense racks need it once air can no longer shift the heat fast enough.
The standard arrived six days after Singapore allocated capacity to four operators under its second call. Ambient heat and humidity are what make the tropics hard: a temperate site can reject heat to outside air for much of the year, while a site on the equator cannot, so water or electricity has to make up the difference. Fixing how the alternative is engineered and tested, before the newly allocated halls are drawn, decides what the operators can propose. Operators across the strait have been answering the cooling question one at a time. ZDATA put its own supply on the record in July, naming treated wastewater and nothing else at its Johor site .
Nothing in the standard commissions a megawatt. What it does is tell four operators, and everyone selling them equipment, what an acceptable liquid-cooled design looks like in this climate while the designs are still on paper.
