Algeria came from behind to beat Jordan 2-1 in Santa Clara on 22 June, a result that knocked Jordan out and set up a straight shootout for the second Group J place. Jordan had lost their opener 3-0 to Argentina and scored their first World Cup goal in their tournament debut against Austria ; their campaign ends after two defeats. Algeria, themselves beaten 3-0 by Argentina, now meet Austria on Friday 26 June with both sides level on three points. The winner of that match takes the knockout spot outright, and a draw would push the decision onto goal difference, which is not yet settled between them.
