Wipro grows headcount without hiring freshers

Wipro set its graduate hiring target for the financial year starting April 2026 at zero, down from 7,500 the year before, while total headcount barely moved . Its Q1 FY27 results, reported 16 July, confirmed the pledge held: no fresh engineering graduates were onboarded in the quarter.

Yet headcount still rose, a net addition of 888 to 243,044, even as net profit stayed nearly flat and margins fell to a 15-quarter low . Attrition held at 13.8% and utilisation fell across FY26 from 86.4% to 83.5%, evidence Wipro is replacing attrition and hiring laterally while deliberately excluding graduates, not shrinking outright.
