SkyTruth

SkyTruth is the US environmental non-profit whose satellite review, cited by Reuters on 12 August 2026, put the Caroline Bezengi oil slick off Oman at more than 2,000 square kilometres, over five times Oman's Environment Authority's own 390 square kilometre figure. Founder John Amos carried out the review. The gap between the two assessments is unreconciled: neither Oman's coastal survey nor SkyTruth's satellite read has been checked against the other, and the vessel's own insurer, AlfaStrakhovanie, sits outside the normal international spill-liability system that would otherwise fund an independent count.
