Background
The Omega Special Purpose Center is a regiment-sized special forces formation of Ukraine's National Guard, headquartered in Kyiv. Established in April 2003 under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it transferred to the reconstituted National Guard after 2014 and took its present unified form in 2018, consolidating Ukraine's special-purpose units under the Omega name. It comprises several detachments, including a Special Purpose Diving Unit, spread across Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Lviv and Kirovohrad, commanded by Maj. Gen. Pavlo Yatsiuk.
Since Russia's 2022 invasion, Omega units have fought in major engagements including the battle for Hostomel and Antonov Airport and urban combat around Kyiv, Kharkiv, Severodonetsk, Bakhmut and Avdiivka.
In July 2026, Ukraine's Ministry of Internal Affairs reported via social media that Omega's diving detachment had built an uncrewed surface vessel to launch FPV strike drones and support combat divers. This claim is single-source and unverified beyond the original MIA post.
