Background

Founded in 1977, New Enterprise Associates is one of the largest and longest-running venture capital firms in the United States, investing from early-stage rounds through to growth-stage deals across enterprise software, healthcare, fintech and, increasingly, AI infrastructure and applications.

In July 2026 the firm co-led two AI infrastructure rounds three weeks apart. It backed TwelveLabs' $100m Series B on 1 July alongside South Korea's NAVER Ventures, as the video-understanding AI start-up's headcount tripled to around 178 in a year . It then co-led CuspAI's $450m Series B on 20 July, as the Cambridge materials-AI company unveiled a 45-plus-partner Coalition spanning chipmakers, automakers and consumer-electronics manufacturers .

The pairing spans two different layers of the AI stack, video understanding and physical materials discovery, and two different geographies, American and British; NEA's cheques sat alongside Britain's Sovereign AI Unit and the Dutch vehicle Invest-NL on CuspAI's cap table, and alongside Amazon Web Services and Red Bull Ventures on TwelveLabs', suggesting the firm is spreading conviction across the stack rather than doubling down on one bet.
