Greece's Ministry of Migration (formally the Ministry of Migration and Asylum) administers the country's residence permit and Visa-processing framework, including the Digital Nomad Visa. Under Law 5275/2026, the Ministry became the responsible authority for the consulate-only application regime that replaced the previous in-country conversion route. As of 8 May 2026, the Ministry had not published consular processing-time guidance for the peak May-June application wave.
The Ministry also administers the STR registration suspension system operating under Law 5275/2026 through coordination with municipal authorities. It works alongside AADE (the Greek tax authority) on property registration, and it is the decision-making body that would publish any expansion of the Thessaloniki neighbourhood STR caps or the reviews under way for Santorini, Paros, Chania and Halkidiki.
For applicants, the Ministry's processing-time silence is the operative variable heading into summer 2026. Portugal's AIMA provides a precedent for what happens when peak-season demand outpaces published capacity guidance: pending caseloads exceeding 300,000 and complaints rising 37%.
