UK Startups and Innovation: Bank proposes £100m aerospace debt fundBackground
Louis Taylor is chief executive of the British Business Bank, the government-owned finance institution for smaller UK businesses. On Monday 20 July 2026 he proposed a £100m debt fund for UK aerospace suppliers at the Farnborough International Airshow, developed with Airbus, Rolls-Royce, GKN Aerospace and trade body ADS.
The British Business Bank was established in 2014 to improve smaller companies' access to finance, operating through commercial lenders rather than lending directly to businesses itself. As chief executive, Taylor oversees a mandate spanning start-up loans, regional funds and, increasingly, sector-specific vehicles aimed at industrial supply chains.
The proposed fund responds to a financing gap facing aerospace suppliers squeezed by rising input costs and long production cycles. Backing from three of the sector's largest manufacturers signals an attempt to de-risk the supply chain collectively rather than leaving individual suppliers to negotiate financing alone.
