Background

Kongsberg Listen is a commercial subsea business unit of Norway's Kongsberg group that secured an autonomous underwater vehicle order from survey company DOF in mid-July 2026, delivering a HUGIN-class vehicle.

The unit sells Kongsberg's HUGIN family of autonomous underwater vehicles, originally developed for naval mine-countermeasures and seabed survey, into the commercial offshore market, competing for work in subsea inspection, pipeline survey and infrastructure protection.

The DOF order landed in the same fortnight as Kongsberg Discovery's separate selection to design a US Navy extra-large uncrewed underwater vehicle, evidence that the same underlying autonomous-vehicle product line is winning both defence and commercial contracts at once.
