Autonomous Systems: Land & Sea: Kongsberg lands Fugro and DOF dealsBackground
Fugro, the Dutch geo-data and survey group, signed a Main Supplier agreement with Kongsberg Discovery in mid-July 2026, consolidating a partnership that puts Kongsberg autonomous underwater vehicles at the centre of Fugro's offshore survey fleet.
Headquartered in Leidschendam, Fugro provides geotechnical, geophysical and hydrographic survey services to offshore energy, subsea cable and infrastructure clients worldwide, and has increasingly replaced ship-towed sensors with autonomous underwater and surface vehicles to cut vessel time and cost.
The Kongsberg agreement shows the same autonomous-vehicle product lines developed for naval mine-countermeasures work are also displacing conventional survey methods commercially, with Fugro's order book acting as a bellwether for how fast that substitution is happening across the offshore sector.
