Why did Konarak lose power in July 2026?
Is Konarak a major Iranian port?
Background
Konarak lost power on 8 July 2026 during a second heavy US strike wave in 48 hours, alongside Bandar Abbas and Chabahar, as a north-east railway bridge also collapsed under the bombardment.
The town sits on Iran's Makran coast in Sistan and Baluchestan province, roughly 150km east of Chabahar, and hosts a small naval and fishing port used by Iran's regular navy alongside IRGC coastal assets, a location strategically valuable for monitoring approaches to the Gulf of Oman.
Its inclusion in the same strike wave as the major hubs Bandar Abbas and Chabahar shows the campaign's reach extending beyond flagship targets into Iran's secondary Makran-coast infrastructure, part of a wider pattern of coastal power and transport disruption through the war.
