Just Climate

Just Climate is a climate-focused investment firm and one of the backers of Tropic Biosciences, the Norwich-based gene-editing agriculture startup. The firm invests in companies working on hard-to-abate sectors and climate solutions that require long-horizon capital rather than short-cycle venture returns. Its participation in the Tropic Series B reflects a thesis that crop resilience and agricultural adaptation are core components of a climate investment portfolio, not merely adjacent to it.

Founded by Al Gore and David Blood, the founders of Generation Investment Management, Just Climate was established as a dedicated vehicle for climate-solution investments that require patient capital and cannot be accommodated within the shorter horizons of conventional PE funds. The firm targets investments across energy transition, land use, food systems, and industrial decarbonisation.

For Tropic Biosciences, Just Climates backing adds a climate-narrative dimension to what is primarily an agri-biotech story. Gene-editing crop traits for disease resistance and drought tolerance can plausibly reduce agricultural emissions by cutting pesticide use and improving land efficiency. Just Climates involvement makes that case explicitly, potentially opening channels to climate-oriented institutional capital that might not otherwise look at a biotech Series B.
