On 10 July 2026, US District Judge Jasmine Yoon of the Western District of Virginia declined to dismiss a private-nuisance suit against Amazon's data-centre construction site in Louisa County, allowing the case to proceed; the ruling surfaced in reporting on 23 July.
Yoon, who moved to the United States from South Korea at the age of 14, was confirmed to the Western District of Virginia bench in March 2024 and took office that July, becoming the first Asian American federal judge in Virginia and the first person of colour on that court. She previously served as an Assistant US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, prosecuting financial-crime and public-corruption cases, and held counsel roles at the University of Virginia and Capital One Financial Corporation.
Her ruling keeps alive one of the first US nuisance suits brought directly against a hyperscaler's data-centre construction, a case likely to be watched as a precedent for how communities near AI-driven infrastructure builds can challenge disruption in court.
