Background

H2-Era Green Valley is a circular-economy industrial complex at Figline Valdarno, south-east of Florence, led by engineering firm Ge-Group.

The site combines an 84 MW solar plant, vertical-farming and salmon-farming operations that receive the complex's waste heat, and green hydrogen production from surplus power. IT services company Comtel announced on 13 August 2026 that it will build its first directly operated data centre inside the complex , selling the facility's waste heat to the farming operations and using surplus power for hydrogen production.

Total investment across the site is put at around €170m, creating roughly 300 jobs, positioning it as a test case for pairing data-centre power demand with on-site renewable generation rather than grid draw.
