What did Equinor give up to expand Vår Energi's Gjøa hub?
Background
Gjøa gave its name to the North Sea hub at the centre of a 30 June 2026 asset swap: Vår Energi took a 32.5% stake and operatorship of the neighbouring Peon gas discovery, tying it back to Gjøa, while Equinor received a 5% stake in the Fram field plus interests in the Grosbeak, Mulder and Grønngylt prospects.
Vår Energi has operated the fully electrified Gjøa platform since February 2024, when it absorbed Neptune Energy's Norwegian assets. In production since 2010 and already hosting tie-backs from the Vega, Duva and Nova fields, Gjøa's economic life is expected to extend to around 2045 once Peon ties in.
