Background
Galloway and West Dumfries is one of five Scottish Parliament constituency seats currently held by the Scottish Conservatives that Electoral Calculus projects will fall to the SNP at the 7 May 2026 Holyrood election. If the MRP projection holds, it would form part of the first complete wipeout of Conservative constituency representation since devolution began in 1999.
The constituency covers a large rural sweep of south-west Scotland, including Galloway and the western parts of Dumfries and Galloway. It returned a Conservative MSP at every Holyrood election since 2011. The seat is considered one of the party's safer rural strongholds, making its projected loss to the SNP particularly significant.
