Kuwait court sentences three to death
Iran Conflict 2026Background
Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah, usually called Fahad Al-Yousef in Kuwait, is a senior member of the ruling Al-Sabah family. He has been first deputy prime minister and interior minister since 17 January 2024, and he held the defence portfolio as well until February 2025. He is a retired Army colonel of the Amiri Guard.
The Interior Ministry gives him charge of policing and domestic security, the remit that the alleged plot targeted. The State Security Circuit of Kuwait's Criminal Court gave three defendants death sentences and eight others five years each.
The case then moved into diplomacy. Iran's embassy said its citizen had left Kuwait ten years earlier, and Kuwait answered by summoning Iran's ambassador over what it called interference.
