Estadio Akron

Estadio Akron is the home ground of Club Deportivo Guadalajara, commonly known as Chivas, one of Mexico's most-supported football clubs. Located in the Zapopan district of greater Guadalajara, it opened in 2010 and holds approximately 49,850 spectators. It was selected as one of the Mexican venues for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey on the Mexican side of the tri-nation tournament. The stadium hosted South Korea's 2-1 comeback win over Czechia in Group A on 11 June, the second match of the tournament's opening day.

The stadium is named after its title sponsor, Akron, and is known for its distinctive external design. Guadalajara, Mexico's second-largest city, sits in the Jalisco state — territory associated with the CJNG cartel, a security consideration that shaped the broader planning for World Cup fixtures in the region. As a venue, Estadio Akron is smaller than the Azteca and Monterrey's Estadio BBVA, and its capacity makes it suited to mid-tier group-stage fixtures rather than the late rounds of the tournament.

Chivas is one of two Liga MX clubs based in Guadalajara; the other, Atlas, plays at the Estadio Jalisco. Chivas carry the distinction of fielding only Mexican-nationality players, a policy unique among major professional clubs globally. Estadio Akron represents that club's home infrastructure and, for the duration of the 2026 World Cup, a stage for the tournament's early group matches.
