Eastern Zawtar is a village in the Zawtar al-Sharqiya municipality of southern Lebanon, inside the pilot zones covered by the Israel-Lebanon ceasefire. Talks on widening those zones ended in mid-August without a resumption date, leaving the village exposed to further Israeli operations.
A four-storey school in the village centre came down on 12 August 2026, detonated by Israeli forces in the latest of a run of demolitions there over the preceding month.
Over that same period the village lost other municipal structures, including an earlier-destroyed nursery, a pattern local officials have documented building by building rather than as a single event.
