Common Questions
Are the Greens projected to win Ealing Council in 2026?

What is Southall in Ealing known for?
Southall, in the London Borough of Ealing, is known for one of the largest South Asian communities in the UK, with a majority Punjabi Sikh and South Asian population and a strong cultural and commercial identity.

Background

Ealing is a west London borough of approximately 345,000 people, stretching from Acton and Southall through Hanwell to Greenford. It has been under Labour control for most of the past two decades. YouGov's final London MRP (n=4,548) projects Ealing as one of the boroughs where the Green Party is competitive, and where 16 of 32 London boroughs sit within five points between first and second place.

Ealing has a significantly diverse population — Southall is one of the largest South Asian communities in the UK — and a large private rental sector. The borough has seen Green vote share grow in wards with high concentrations of young professional renters, particularly around Acton and central Ealing. Southall wards, by contrast, have historically been among the safest Labour seats in London.

The Green challenge in Ealing is geographically concentrated: the party targets wards where demographic transition has eroded traditional Labour identity, while Labour's structural majority rests on communities of colour whose support has been more stable.
