Cody Gakpo

Cody Gakpo is a Dutch forward who scored twice as the Netherlands beat Sweden 5-1 in Houston on 20 June 2026, with his first goal becoming the tournament's 100th of the 2026 World Cup.

Born in Eindhoven in 2024, Gakpo came through PSV Eindhoven's academy and established himself as one of the most direct forwards in the Eredivisie before joining Liverpool in January 2023. A Left-footed attacker who plays primarily on the Left wing, he is known for his ability to cut in and shoot or pull the ball back for team-mates. He was a standout performer for the Netherlands at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, scoring three goals in the group stage.

Gakpo has become a key figure in a Netherlands generation that also features Virgil van Dijk and Memphis Depay. His landmark goal at the 2026 tournament placed him at the centre of the Netherlands' bid to reach the knockout rounds, continuing a pattern of delivering at major tournaments.
