City AM

City AM is a free London business newspaper covering UK Finance, business and technology. It began as a print title handed out across the Square Mile and Canary Wharf, and most of its readers now reach it online.

Ministers and executives use the paper to put positions on the record. On 15 July 2026 AI minister Kanishka Narayan told City AM that Britain wants global AI leadership rather than a copy of Silicon Valley; Quantexa's John Harms replied that sovereignty needs governance control and data portability, not just UK-based hardware. On 6 October ASOS gave City AM its account of the breach: an unauthorised party had impersonated a trusted contact to obtain an employee's credentials. The paper also reported that ASOS shares fell by more than 13 per cent that day.

City AM also publishes the numbers that frame UK business debates. In April 2026 it reported Dealroom data showing British start-ups raised $7.8bn in the first quarter, with AI absorbing $5.8bn of that sum. On 29 September it cited Ofgem figures putting data centres at no less than 80 GW of the demand connection queue, and counted CX Tech's 1,000 MW request near Chapelcross as a record.
