One vehicle and four instruments describes what the university actually bought. The platform is the carrier; the value sits in what it measures and in the software that turns a drive into georeferenced data. A photogrammetry stack of that kind produces survey-grade maps from imagery, and pairing it with an air-quality sensor on a machine that can repeat a route puts the same instruments over the same ground as often as a researcher wants.
European universities have become a steady line in these records. Malta tendered for a bathymetric-survey uncrewed surface vessel under Maestri on 31 July, and the pattern is the same: public research money, a single platform, an instrument package chosen before the vehicle. Academic buyers pay list price for one unit and publish what the thing does, which makes them the least secretive customers on this beat and, unit for unit, among the most informative.
