SLC CGIL is the telecommunications and communications-sector federation of CGIL, one of Italy's three main trade union confederations, organising workers in call centres, telecoms and related service industries.
As the sector-specific Arm of Italy's largest confederation, SLC CGIL typically leads coordination on industrial action affecting call-centre and communications workers, working alongside its counterparts within CISL and UIL when a dispute spans the whole sector.
Its July 2026 mobilisation marked the first time Italian call-centre unions moved together nationally over AI-linked job losses specifically.
SLC CGIL sets the stoppage terms
SLC CGIL, the communications-sector federation of CGIL, led Italy's first coordinated national call-centre mobilisation against AI-driven job cuts, in force from 13 to 27 July 2026 .
The action it designed combines two-hour stoppages at the end of each shift with a blanket ban on overtime, a structure meant to squeeze employer output without a full walkout. SLC CGIL and its two co-organising federations say nearly 2,000 call-centre jobs are at risk in Piedmont alone, and note that Italian call-centre contracts, unlike Spain's court-tested disclosure rules, carry no clause requiring retraining when AI cuts call volumes.
