Background

The Saildrone Voyager is a 10m uncrewed surface vessel with a 6m wing sail, a 2m draught and an electric motor. Saildrone gives a mapping speed of 5 knots and 100 days between service stops. Its sensors include radar, an infrared camera, AIS, seafloor mapping equipment and ocean sensors. The company markets it for coastal surveillance and nearshore mapping, and says Voyagers covered 12,500 square nautical miles and detected 116,000 contacts on counter-drug work.

The US Navy pays for what the Voyager does, not for owning it. A $16.3m task order on 12 August 2026 extended its time on station in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific. That model, buying uncrewed boats' hours at SEA through task orders, is one of the routes into Navy work open to builders that lack a production slot.

The Voyager is Saildrone's patrol-endurance product. Saildrone has trialled missiles on the larger Surveyor class, not on the Voyager.
