Rwampara Ebola Treatment Centre

Staff at Rwampara hardened their strike from 13 July, abandoning an isolation ward and burning tyres at the entrance over unpaid salaries and bonuses promised during an earlier ministerial visit. Ituri response officials pledged at an 18 July Bunia press conference to validate personnel lists and digitise the payment system, and staff returned to work conditionally after a day.

Rwampara is the principal Ebola treatment centre for Bunia, Ituri Province's capital, taking the patients that the province's rural health posts cannot handle. The walkout was the second stage of a hazard-pay grievance first raised across Ituri's health workforce on 9 July, when workers threatened to strike rather than actually doing so; Rwampara's staff crossed that line once the promised fix did not arrive.
