Background

The Real Federacion Espanola de Futbol (RFEF), founded on 29 September 1913 and based at the Ciudad del Futbol in Las Rozas near Madrid, governs football in Spain, including the men's and women's national teams and domestic competitions. Rafael Louzan became its president in December 2024, taking over after the fallout from the 2023 Women's World Cup kiss scandal forced Luis Rubiales's resignation.

Under head coach Luis de la Fuente, the federation fielded a men's World Cup squad on 26 May with eight Barcelona players and, for the first time in its history, none from Real Madrid . That squad won the 2026 FIFA World Cup on 19 July, beating Argentina 1-0 after extra time, Spain's first title since 2010.

Louzan led the RFEF delegation to the royal family's reception of the winning squad at the Palacio de la Zarzuela on 20 July, the same protocol Spain followed after its only previous World Cup win .
