Public Health Vaccines LLC received a $1.9 million award from CEPI on 9 June 2026 to generate master viral seed stock for a fourth Bundibugyo ebolavirus vaccine candidate on the rVSV platform. The rVSV platform (recombinant vesicular stomatitis virus) uses a harmless livestock virus engineered to carry the target pathogen's immune markers. It is the same technology behind Merck's Ervebo, the only licensed Zaire ebolavirus vaccine. Public Health Vaccines is one of four organisations in CEPI's current Bundibugyo portfolio alongside IAVI, Serum Institute of India (manufacturing the Oxford ChAdOx1 candidate), and Moderna (mRNA platform).

Public Health Vaccines LLC is a US-based entity, placing it within the broader CEPI portfolio that spans Norwegian, Indian, and American developers. Its work sits at the earliest pre-clinical stage as of the June 2026 award, and the PATH from master seed stock to a licensed product runs through Phase 1 safety trials, Phase 2 efficacy studies, regulatory review, and manufacturing scale-up. The award does not imply imminent human trials, but funding the seed stock now shortens the critical PATH if the Bundibugyo outbreak continues.
