Promise David

Promise David was Born on 7 March 2001 in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, to Nigerian parents. His full legal name is Promise Oluwatobi Emmanuel David Akinpelu; he plays professionally under the name Promise David, with David serving as his registered football surname. He is informally known as Tobi. He switched international allegiance from Nigeria to Canada in February 2025, and his rapid development makes him one of the most exciting young strikers in the Canadian programme.

David has established himself as a leading striker in the Belgian Pro League at Union Saint-Gilloise, where he signed a four-year contract in June 2025. In the 2024-25 season he scored 24 goals and provided 5 assists in 41 matches, helping Union Saint-Gilloise win their first Belgian league title in 90 years. The club also featured in the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League. At 25, he is already attracting interest from larger European clubs.

At the 2026 World Cup, David came off the bench as a substitute in the 60th minute of Canada's Group B opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto on 12 June. In the 78th minute, with Canada trailing 1-0, he received the ball and played a clever lay-off that found Cyle Larin, who fired low into the corner to earn a 1-1 draw, Canada's first-ever World Cup point.
