Data Centres: Boom and Backlash: KT Cloud plans 50 MW AI site in IncheonBackground
KT Cloud aims to secure more than 1 GW of AI data-centre capacity by 2031. Its newest project is a 50 MW site at Cheongna, Incheon, where it will provide design consulting, commissioning and operation and fit direct-to-chip liquid cooling in the AI zone, with Hyundai Engineering as co-builder. The company announced the plan on 7 October 2026, with construction from the fourth quarter of 2026 and completion in the first quarter of 2030.
It was spun off from KT's cloud and internet data-centre businesses and launched in April 2022 as a wholly owned subsidiary, taking over KT's major data centres. It runs capital-region sites at Gasan and Mokdong. As of October 2026 Kim Bong-gyun leads the company.
Siting now carries a price in South Korea. A regional power-pricing plan set out in August 2026 offers cheaper industrial rates beyond southern Seoul and southern Gyeonggi, with AI data centres among its intended beneficiaries. Cheongna lies inside the capital region; KT Cloud also plans large sites outside it, including Gunsan.
