Background

Jovo Lukic was Born on 28 November 1998 in Sabac, in what is now Serbia, and chose to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina internationally. A tall centre-forward standing approximately 1.93 m, he built his career in the Bosnian Premier League at Borac Banja Luka, where he made 135 appearances and scored 38 goals across four seasons (2020-2024), winning two Bosnian championship titles. He moved abroad in 2024, spending time at Universitatea Craiova in Romania before joining Universitatea Cluj, also in Romania's Liga I, in 2025.

Lukic came into the 2026 World Cup squad as a largely unknown figure internationally, appearing in only his fourth senior cap for Bosnia and Herzegovina. The tournament was a significant test for a squad that qualified for the World Cup for only the second time in the country's history, and one that was without injured strikers Edin Dzeko and Haris Tabakovic from the start of the campaign.

Against Canada on 12 June 2026 in Toronto, Lukic announced himself on the World Cup stage with Bosnia's only goal and his first senior international goal: he headed home from a set piece in the 21st minute, nodding in a flick-on from captain SEAD Kolasinac after Ivan Basic's corner. Canada equalised through Cyle Larin in the 78th minute to earn a 1-1 draw.
