Higher Sports Council

The Higher Sports Council, or Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD), is the Spanish government body responsible for national sports policy and oversight of the country's sports federations. It sits within the government structure rather than replacing sport-specific bodies such as Spain's football federation (RFEF), funding and regulating federations, anti-doping policy and major event bids alongside them.

The CSD's role extends well beyond any single tournament, covering Olympic preparation, grassroots sport funding and national federation oversight across all disciplines. That breadth makes it a recurring reference point whenever Spanish sport intersects with government policy, from stadium bids to funding disputes, rather than a body tied to any one competition or federation.
