Haut-Uele is a province in north-eastern DR Congo, one of five now reporting cases in the Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak that began earlier in 2026. Ebola arrived later here than in Ituri, the outbreak's epicentre, but the province's surveillance and contact-tracing infrastructure was correspondingly weaker when transmission reached it.
As of the situation report covering the week to 27 July 2026, Africa CDC recorded five affected health zones and 39 confirmed cases, the fourth-largest provincial total behind Ituri, North Kivu and the newly affected Tshopo. Its position on the outbreak's frontier means fewer isolation beds and diagnostic labs had been established there before cases arrived, a gap the wider response has not yet closed.
