Background
Gillian Mackay is a Scottish Greens MSP for Central Scotland on the regional list, first elected in 2021. She co-launched the Scottish Greens' 89-page Holyrood manifesto in Glasgow on 14 April 2026 alongside MSP Ross Greer.
Mackay was one of seven Scottish Greens MSPs elected in 2021 under the Additional Member System. Her parliamentary work has focused on health, reproductive rights and public services. She was among the backbench MSPs who formed the enlarged Green group during the Bute House Agreement period (2021-2024), when the party entered government with the SNP. Following the collapse of that agreement she returned to full opposition work. Her Central Scotland constituency covers the Central Belt industrial areas, including Falkirk and Stirling.
The 2026 manifesto launch in Glasgow marked the Scottish Greens' central campaign event, presenting policies including free bus travel for all, a Scottish wealth tax, 40,000 green energy jobs, a North Sea moratorium, and levies on landlords and supermarkets, with both Mackay and Greer as the public faces of the platform.
