The bill would license data centres
Singapore’s government placed the bill before Parliament on 8 September. It would turn voluntary standards on data-centre security and energy efficiency into licence requirements enforced by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA).
For operators, the measure makes compliance a legal condition rather than a standards choice. The bill gives cloud and data-centre providers one licensing route, with IMDA responsible for enforcing both parts of the regime.
